We aim to use water wisely, and innovate chemistry to create exceptional products.

We assess water limits in our supply chain, and work with our suppliers to manufacture products using methods that are more water efficient.

We continue to elevate chemicals management and promote the use of better chemistries to achieve product performance, minimize environmental impact, and comply with regulation and industry standards.

Chemical Management

When it comes to chemistry, we strive to bring better and safer chemicals into our products and supply chain.

We work to restrict and manage chemicals upstream in production facilities and products to a safer limit for people and the planet.

Restricted Substances List (RSL)

Since 2011 we have set a stringent RSL that lays out our standards for chemicals in products. Our RSL goes beyond regulatory compliance requirements to set voluntary limits on restricted substances.

Suppliers are required to meet our RSL and do regular testing to confirm compliance. Our RSL is aligned to the Apparel and Footwear International Management (AFIRM) Group. It lists substances that are banned or restricted from lululemon products and processes. All suppliers are required to participate.

MRSL and Wastewater

We have adopted the ZDHC MRSL v2.0 and ZDHC Wastewater guidelines as part of our Vendor Environmental Program.

In 2020, we implemented our new Vendor Chemical Management Policy with all suppliers. This policy requires reporting on a baseline of chemical inventories and industrial wastewater test results. In 2021, we became Friends of ZDHC so we can advance our work and leverage ZDHC guidelines, solutions, and platforms.

Water Usage

In 2021, we conducted a water risk and scarcity assessment to better understand our water reduction potential. We are working with priority suppliers to set water reduction targets and action plans to reduce freshwater consumption.

We use Higg FEM to inform our Vendor Environmental Program. In 2020, 98 facilities, including finished goods, raw material mills, and supplier subcontractors, completed the Higg FEM. This represented approximately 96 percent of our production value in dollars.
