We are committed to exploring new methods and solutions in materials we use in an effort to create durable, beautiful products with long-lasting performance and lower environmental impact.

We use life-cycle impact assessment as a tool to assess carbon emissions, chemical use, and water impact improvements or trade-offs. This requires a collective effort within our industry that enables solutions in new fibers and materials and evolving manufacturing processes.

Our Goals

Sustainable product and material innovation.

'
Nylon
  • Launch alternative nylon solutions by 2025
  • Source 100% renewable or recycled content nylon for our products by 2030

Nylon makes up the biggest portion of our materials and provides outstanding product performance and quality that cannot currently be replicated with other materials. Our goal is to transition from virgin nylon fiber to renewable, recycled, or net new fibers that reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and lessen carbon emissions, while simultaneously ensuring uncompromising feel and performance. This is by far our most challenging materials goal.

Polyester
  • Source at least 75% recycled polyester by 2025

Polyester is our second largest procured material by weight. In 2020, almost 40% of our total procured polyester was made of recycled content (post-consumer recycled PET from plastic bottles). We continue to convert to recycled polyester content in our core products.

Cotton
  • Source 100% of cotton from more sustainable sources by 2025

Moving beyond conventional cotton means improving farming practices including soil health and water use. We take a portfolio approach to achieving more sustainable cotton by producing and supporting market growth for preferred cotton sources including organic, recycled, regenerative, and other third-party certified platforms. We are creating a roadmap to scale currently available sustainable cotton platforms and partnering to develop new solutions.

Animal-derived Materials
  • Trace or certify as sourced responsibly 100% of our animal-derived materials by 2025

While animal-derived materials are a small portion of our materials portfolio, animal welfare is a priority for us. We’re committed to upholding strong animal welfare practices, including:

  • Since 2016, 100% of our down has been fully traceable and certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS).
  • We are working toward responsibly sourced wool that is traceable and preferably certified by a third party, such as the Responsible Wool Standard.
  • We’re also working on innovative alternatives to some animal-derived materials – with advances to come in the next few years.
Forest-based Materials
  • Certify or assess by a third-party 100% of our forest-based materials are sourced responsibly by 20231

1Forest-based materials consist of regenerated cellulosics and natural rubber.

Since 2018, 100% of our forest-based cellulosic fibers have been sourced responsibly, assessed through CanopyStyle Audits. We’re transitioning our core yoga mat platforms to natural rubber that is sustainably sourced and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC).
